Features of XTERRA Fitness TRX4500 Treadmill
Assembly of the XTERRA Fitness TRX4500 Treadmill is quite easy as the belt and motor come pre-assembled and connected to the base frame. Thus users just have to attach the console and console masts. This should take a little over 30 minutes, but is pretty easy. The user’s manual provides clear assembly instructions and all basic tools required are included.
The XTERRA TRX4500 features a powerful 3.25HP motor made to support long runs at maximum speed, without getting overheated or losing performance. It has a small flywheel attached to its side so as to reduce vibration. The flywheel also helps in promoting a smoother motion of the front roller.
As mentioned earlier, the XTERRA Fitness TRX4500 has durability like a light commercial treadmill and this is seen in its frame.
It has very sturdy aluminum side frame platforms which not only give the machine a stylish look, but also provide a secure standing surface (most other treadmills in this price range come with thick plastic platforms). But many ABS parts are also included in the construction, such as dashboard, motor cover, side covers of base joints and masts, and covers of the side grips and rear parts of the deck.
The entire frame has a coating of chip-resistant and corrosion-resistant paint. The steel parts of the frame are pained in light gray, whereas the ABS parts are painted in black.
The TRX4500 when fully assembled is quite large i.e. having a length of around 77″ (196 cm) and width of around 35″ (90 cm).
In addition, it’s advisable to leave at least two feet of clearance on each side and at least three feet on the backside of the machine for safe and easy access, exercising and exit.
The TRX4500 features a foldable design and users can fold and lock it up at around 65°.
This reduces the height of the machine by about 40%. To make the folding and unfolding easy and safe, the Lift Assist and Safe Drop mechanisms respectively have been included in the machine.
The machine is quite heavy weighing around 221 lbs. (100 kg); thus, it needs at least two people to carry the box, unbox the machine and assemble it. But the weight makes the machine stable. Plus, there are adjustable stabilizers attached to the front and rear bases of the frame.
Although the TRX4500 is quite heavy, once assembled, it’s not very difficult to move, thanks to the two small transport wheels attached to its front base.
The console of the TRX4500 is programmable. It has a 7.5” LCD display with blue backlight and large, easily readable digits. Its top section displays time, distance, pace, calories, and pulse. The mid-section displays speed, incline level, and program chosen, and the bottom section displays the selected user.
Distance and speed can be set to be displayed in metric or imperial units. A racetrack function is also available for distance which shows distance traveled as a ¼ racetrack, measuring the finished laps.
The console is also telemetric and can track users’ heart rate via an HR chest strap which is included. But users can even measure the pulse via the pulse sensors integrated in the handgrips.
The console is Bluetooth-enabled too and is compatible with the XTERRA Fitness App which is available at the Google Play and Apple Store. If users download the app on their phone or tablet, the treadmill can directly stream their workout stats to the app, and then users can sync it to the FitBit or iHealth for tracking their progress in a better way.
Plus, the TRX4500 is Zwift compatible too. Zwift is an interactive training and racing app, compatible with select XTERRA treadmills. By integrating Zwift with an XTERRA treadmill, users can enjoy the virtual world of Zwift, including flexible training plans, intuitive coaching and a motivating community.
Built-in Workout Programs
The console of the XTERRA TRX4500 features 30 preset workout programs, 2 custom programs, 1 HRC program, and 1 manual program.
The 30 preset programs include all types of workouts for high cardio, intervals, stamina building, and intense calorie burn.
The 2 user programs offer the scope for creating users’ profiles and their own custom programs.
The HRC program lets users select the desired HR interval and the machine will adjust the speed so as to keep user within the chosen HR interval for the duration of the program.
The manual program enables users to freely adjust the speed and incline as they walk or run.
All 30 preset workout programs can be customized to run from up to 5 to 99 minutes. The duration and your heart rate for the heart rate control program can also be customized; by default, it is 116 beats per minute though.
The TRX4500 features an extremely strong running deck that can support users of weight up to 350 lbs. who can do any type of workout with ease. It also features two XTRASoft cushioning elements on each side that reduce the impact on joints. Thus, this machine makes running much easier than that on concrete or asphalt.
The deck is equipped with a strong 2-ply Duraweave belt crafted to offer excellent adherence for almost all types of athletic shoes. It offers a generous running surface measuring 60″L x 20″W (152.4L x 51W cm), that offers a complete and adequate running stride for users up to 6’5” (196 cm).
The rollers that make the belt move are crowned so as to extend the belt’s life. The diameter of the front ones measures 2.4” and that of the rear one is 1.8”. Plus, they feature premium-quality ball bearings which provide a very smooth belt motion.
The XTERRA Fitness TRX4500 features a motorized incline system. It comprises of a motor and small lift located at the front of the deck. Users can adjust the incline from the console or from the buttons fitted into the side grips. In addition, if users choose one of the built-in workout programs, the machine auto-adjusts the incline as required by that particular workout.
The machine offers the incline in the range of 0% to 15%, with an increment of 0.1%.
At 0% incline, the surface of the deck is around 9” (22 cm) above the floor level, while at the maximum incline level, the front of the deck is lifted to many more inches. Thus, it’s advisable to install and use the machine in a room the ceiling of which is at least 20” (51 cm) higher than the user’s own height.
The speeds offered by the motor of the TRX4500 range from 0.5 MPH to 12 MPH. Just like the incline controls, the controls for speed are also located on the console. There are gradual as well as quick speed adjustments. However, quick speed settings are only from 1 to 10 MPH. Thus if users want to increase speed after 12 MPH, they’ll have to use the arrow keys on the console or the controls built in the right handlebar.
The gradual adjustment offers the increments from 0.1 MPH to 0.5 MPH. When users will press one button repeatedly, the speed will be adjusted in the increments of 0.1 MPH, while if they keep a button pressed the speed will increase by 0.5 MPH. This is useful to find the most comfortable speed for a user’s workout. Since the maximum speed setting is of 12 MPH, users can even perform sprint workouts and interval workouts.
The XTERRA TRX4500 offers many add-ons such as a sound system comprising of an audio jack and a set of speakers to allow users to listen to their phone or MP3 music to keep them motivated, a workout fan, two accessory holders and a tablet holder.
The TRX4500 comes with a tethered safety magnet clip that can be attached to the user’s waistband and brings the machine to a stop automatically in case of emergency or accidental fall.
When it comes to maintenance, the belt of the unit will need regular lubrication i.e. after every 180 hours of use. However, for the first 180 hours of use, it won’t need lubrication as it comes pre-lubricated from the factory. Plus, users will have to keep the belt clean after every workout by wiping it with a damp cloth to prevent any fabric fibers or other small objects from getting dragged and trapped inside the motor or rollers.
