Sunny Health and Fitness SF-RW1205 Rowing Machine
Sunny Health and Fitness SF-RW1205 Rowing Machine is entry level, home rowing machine. It is compact and lightweight rower, which comes at great price and provides the user with low impact aerobic exercise. However, with great price, comes limitations and few drawbacks.
Sunny Health and Fitness SF-RW1205 Rowing Machine uses hydraulic piston and has 12 levels of adjustable resistance. Piston is connected directly to the lever with handlebars on top.
This is very important for several reasons:
- rowing as such is very quiet, unless units start to produce squeaking sounds due to the user load,
- piston resistance system is cheap, but it doesn't provide the best rowing experience like rowing on the water,
- if the user is taller than 8'2" (188cm), handlebars can hit the knees during rowing, so one must be careful with the rowing technique in order to avoid that.
Rower has comfortable and cushioned seat, which runs smoothly over central beam. However, beam is not horizontal, increasing leg pushing and decreasing leg pulling - this is important for really full leg workout.
Unit has standard pivoting foot plates with adjustable foot straps for added comfort during workout.
Electronic monitor displays time, count, total count, calories burned, scan. Calorie counter is not accurate, since it doesn't take into account many data like user weight, fitness level and similar, but it is accurate enough to help user compare workouts.
Personally, I don't like monitor's position - it is in the middle between handlebars and it is clearly visible only in the first part of the stroke. Also, LCD screen could be larger and with better contrast. However, don't forget that this rower is under $100.
Product dimensions - 53L x 20W x 22H inches (135 x 51 x 56 cm) and it weighs only 20 pounds (9.1 kg). It is easily carried around and stored in vertical position.
Since it is so lightweight, maximum user weight of 220 pounds (100 kg) is simply great!
This rower is not recommended for heavier users, but reading the reviews by other people around, this rower is used by much heavier people (250-280 pounds) with no problems, as long as user is steady on the seat with no 'jumping' around.
However, if you are over 220-230 pounds, this rower is perhaps to weak and too lightly built for your body weight.
Sunny Health and Fitness SF-RW1205 Rowing Machine is recommended for smaller framed and elderly people for occasional rowing workout at privacy of their home. For the money people spend, this is excellent machine, however, it lacks many features bigger, sturdier and more expensive rowers have - for example, there is no heart rate monitor and such feature is very important for workout in the 'zone', especially if the user has heart rate limited by his/her doctor or physician and similar.
