ProForm Dual Trainer Bike/Rower

ProForm Dual Trainer Bike/Rower is combination of recumbent bike and rower machine in a singe exercise machine. It is big, sturdy and rather heavy machine with excellent maximum user weight of 350 pounds and life time warranty on the frame itself.

ProForm Dual Trainer Bike/Rower is designed for home indoor use as both rower and recumbent bike. As such, it provides two different types of workouts which complement each other and help burn more calories and increase strength and stamina.

ProForm Dual Trainer Bike/Rower Features and Specifications

First of all, it is big and heavy machine. ProForm Dual Trainer weighs around 150 pounds (~68 kg) and with maximum user weight of 350 pounds (~158.5 kg) can be rather heavy - 500 pounds (226.5 kg). When positioning the trainer, be sure that the floors are protected, especially if you have soft wooden floors.

proform dual trainer bike rower 2When in use, trainer's footprint is 38.3" x 20.50" x 79.2" (~97 x 52 x 201 cm), but it can be folded upwards to save storage space. Also, trainer is equipped with transport wheels for moving trainer when required - personally, position the trainer on permanent location and fold it down when working out and fold it up when trainer is not in use. Transport wheels do their job well and trainer is rather easily moved around, but it is big and heavy piece of equipment and it can flip over and/or hit something or someone...

ProForm Dual Trainer uses magnetic break system for fine tuning of required brake force. Trainer comes with 24 onboard workouts (12 so-called calorie-burning and 12 performance programs for better workouts) and 20 different resistance levels.

On-board flywheel is large enough to provide a smooth and steady cycling and rowing experience.

Target Pacer keeps trainee on track with an indicator light telling one when to speed up or slow down. Pace is set by a user, based on desired fitness goals.

Footrests with Adjustable Straps is positioned low with Aluminum Seat Rail between the footrests. Personally, footrests are rather close to each other and feeling of rowing in that position is odd for me - I prefer wider stance.

Aluminum rail is not horizontal, requiring stronger leg push movement during rowing. Again, I prefer horizontal rail, so that there isn't big imbalance between leg push and pull - rowing should be balanced, (almost) whole body workout, right? :)

proform dual trainer bike rower 4Conversion from rower to bike is easy and fast - all one has to do is to put the back of the seat on and to move the seat to desired position. People with bigger feet may have issues with their feet hitting the rower peddles - when transitioning to cycling be sure to put the back of the seat ON and to move rowing handle and footrests DOWN. Trainer comes with a very detailed manual(s), be sure to read them before trying to assemble the unit and before first workout(s).

Conversion from bike to rower is similar - move footrests with the rowing handle up and remove back of the seat and store it under the seat rail.

There are numerous holes for fixing the seat during cycling, even for very tall people - if you are that tall that you need new holes, they can be easily drilled, however, I am not sure about frame warranty in that case.

Seat is perhaps not the most comfortable around, but even newbies should be able to complete 30 minutes of rowing/cycling with no issues. Rowing handle is soft and ergonomic and feels good in hands.

proform dual trainer bike rower 3Trainer comes with rather large, easy-to-read LCD monitor. Monitor is positioned relatively high and can be seen during cycling and rowing all the time, not unlike some models that are positioned between feet and can be seen only during first part of the rowing stroke. Monitor displays rowing/cycling speed, time, distance, rpm and calories burned.

Monitor is very nice, but it lacks heart rate sensor and there are no heart rate programs. These days this is not rocket science and I hope that ProForm will add these features in the future models.

The ProForm Dual Trainer comes with a Lifetime Frame Warranty and a 1-Year Parts and Labor Warranty.

Long story short - ProForm Dual Trainer Bike/Rower is very nice piece of exercise equipment for home gyms and home use in general. It combines rower and bike in one unit, saving space and money. But, it has certain shortcomings that one should be aware of.
