Hula Hoop Exercises

If you're looking for a fun way to take inches off your waist, then hula hoop exercises may just be the thing for you.

Every year, my kids' school has a father/daughter dance, and one of the most looked-forward-to events is the girls' hula hoop contest.  Once these young girls get going with the hula hoop, they go on for ever.  It's amazing.

Many of us think of hula hoops as a kids's game.  If so, you'll be blown away at what performers now do with hula hoops.  And yes, that's hoops plural!

Cirque Du Soleil have acts with performers "hooping" several hula hoops round their body at the same time.  It's pretty incredible to see.  And the interest in hoops isn't just at the circus level.  The hula hoops community has its own magazine devoted to hula hoops, called Hooping.

Hula Hoops Exercises

If you are new to hula hoops, then the best piece of advice is to take things easy at first.  Think about all those body parts that are in motion with a hulahoop exercise, particularly your back, so go steady.

When you buy a hula hoop, be sure to buy one that's big enough for you.  Don't get a kid's hula hoop.  Based on my performance at the father/daughter event, that kid's hula hoop hits the floor in seconds!

Once you've got the hang of the hula hoop by doing hulahoop exercises, you might be ready for a more serious hoop.  Search on the Internet for weighted hula hoops.  For example, you can get 3lb hoops that will really give you a good workout.

These sports hula hoops come with exercise instructions.  Take them seriously, because the last thing you'll want to tell your friends is that you threw your back out doing a hula hoop exercise!
