Fitness Instructor

If you are just starting out on a workout routine, or if you have a serious fitness goal you want to achieve then consider getting a fitness instructor.  They are a great resource and one of the best investments you make in reaching your goals.

Benefits to having a fitness instructor

There are three main benefits to having a fitness instructor:

  1. You will get a fitness plan designed to meet your goals
  2. You will learn the correct form for lifting wieghts
  3. You will have someone there to keep you on track, helping you when times are tough.

Tips on hiring a fitness instructor

There are a couple of things to look out for when hiring a fitness instructor:

  1. Interview two to three instructors.  It's essential you find one that you like and respect.
  2. Do NOT look on your fitness instructor as a friend.  That sounds odd, but what you want is someone who will push and prod you.  Friends do not do that to each other, so your instructor cannot be a friend.
  3. Hire one who keeps focused on his/her clients and doesn't spend time talking either with you or others.  It's easy to end up spending your valuable workout routine time chatting away.  But you don't want that.  You want someone who will keep you on task.

Finding a Fitness Instructor

We tend to think of fitness instructors as solely belonging to gyms, but if you have a home gym, chances are you can find a fitness instructor to come to your home.  Friends of mine hired an instructor who would come to their house each day.  He had home fitness equipment in his van so they were able to work out that way.

Talk with friends and see if they have used anyone, or just go to your local gym or YMCA and ask to talk to one of the fitness instructors.

If you are in great shape, on the other hand, and you love to workout, you may want to consider being a fitness instructor as a way to make money. Many gyms need instructors who can teach and keep a class moving and motivated. You can take courses to teach you how to be a good and effective fitness instructor, and these may also help you learn how to be a personal trainer if you want to skip the class and work one on one with people. For the workout junkie, this might be the perfect career choice.
